My favorite summer dessert to make with fresh peaches is this easy peach cobbler recipe. In my hometown, we have a local peach stand that has the juiciest peaches, so every year, I grab some and make this homemade cobbler.
While I typically follow a low carb lifestyle, I have to make this favorite southern cobbler at least once a summer. I love making this easy dessert with my kids as it creates special memories together and a yearly tradition that we all enjoy.

Freestone Peaches are best for baking. They are a bit larger, less juicy, and the pit comes right out to make them easier to slice for the cobbler.

You’ll need approx five good-sized peaches to make 3 cups of sliced peaches.

The perfect peach is not hard or overly soft. Instead, you should be able to lightly press the skin near the stem and feel the peach give just a bit. A soft peach can still be used in baking.
Tip: If you don’t have fresh peaches on hand, you can use the same amount of unsweetened frozen peaches or a 29 oz can of sliced peaches, drained. If you use frozen peaches, make sure they are thawed first. Keep in mind that canned peaches would be my last choice as they can make the cobbler a bit gummy.

Once the timer goes off, stick a toothpick in the crust, and if it comes out clean, it’s done. However, you can leave it in the oven for a few more minutes so the crust can get the desired golden brown color.

Easy Peach Cobbler with Fresh Peaches
- 3 cups sliced peaches
- 6 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp self-rising flour
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup self-rising flour
- 1/2 stick of butter melted
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
- Peel and slice the peaches.
- Add 6 tablespoons of sugar and 1 tablespoon of flour to the peaches and stir.
- Pour peaches in a 10.5 X 7 greased baking dish. (A 9 X 9 pan would also work.)
- Combine 1/2 stick melted butter, 1/2 cup milk, 1/2 cup self-rising flour, and 1/2 cup sugar into a bowl. Stir until smooth.
