No, if you like the taste or texture of the skin on the peaches, then leave them as is. I prefer to peel peaches for cobbler.
How to easily peel peaches?
Place a couple of peaches in a pot of boiling water for approx 30 seconds, then move transfer to a bowl full of ice, and the skin should slip right off.
main Ingredients you’ll need:
- peaches– You can’t have a peach cobbler without juicy, tangy peaches.
- sugar and self-rising flour – These ingredients are not only part of the crust make a crust, but they also create a delicious sauce that the peaches cook in.
- butter and milk – They hold the crust together while providing a moist tender texture.
Step 1: While prepping the peaches, it’s a good time to preheat the oven. I cut the peaches into smaller bite-sized chunks.
What kind of peaches are best for cobbler?
Freestone Peaches are best for baking. They are a bit larger, less juicy, and the pit comes right out to make them easier to slice for the cobbler.
How many peaches are needed for this recipe?
You’ll need approx five good-sized peaches to make 3 cups of sliced peaches.
How ripe should peaches be for cobbler?
The perfect peach is not hard or overly soft. Instead, you should be able to lightly press the skin near the stem and feel the peach give just a bit. A soft peach can still be used in baking.
Tip: If you don’t have fresh peaches on hand, you can use the same amount of unsweetened frozen peaches or a 29 oz can of sliced peaches, drained. If you use frozen peaches, make sure they are thawed first. Keep in mind that canned peaches would be my last choice as they can make the cobbler a bit gummy.
Step 2: Combine peaches, flour, and sugar. This creates a delicious sauce that the peaches simmer in while baking.
Step 3: Combine the flour, sugar, and melted butter in a bowl. Don’t stir the batter once you pour it over the top of the peaches in the baking dish. By mixing it, you might get underdone bits of crust that have gotten under the peaches, and your cobbler just won’t turn out the same.
Step 4: Before baking, add a sprinkle of cinnamon for an extra pop of flavor. Bake in a 375-degree oven for 38-45 minutes. Enjoy!

Yes, this is such an easy recipe to adjust. You can add any type of fruit you want to this easy peach cobbler. If you have strawberries you need to eat, make a strawberry cobbler; you could even use lemon juice, blueberries, and peaches to make a peach blueberry lemon cobbler.

Once the timer goes off, stick a toothpick in the crust, and if it comes out clean, it’s done. However, you can leave it in the oven for a few more minutes so the crust can get the desired golden brown color.

It is best baked right before serving, but it keeps well in the fridge for up to a week. To reheat, just pop it into the microwave for a couple of seconds. To rewarm in the oven, set it out so that it reaches room temperature then bake at 350 degrees until it is hot and bubbly in an oven-safe dish.
