Ingredients for Graham Cracker Pecan Pie Bark
Graham crackers – Use a base of graham crackers for plenty of crunch!
Brown sugar – Light or dark! Whatever you have on hand or whatever you prefer. Just remember, dark brown sugar has a more robust molasses flavor.
Butter – Butter makes everything better! Use the real stuff. You won’t regret it. Butter gives this favorite holiday candy unmatched richness.
Pecans – The prime ingredient of this graham cracker bark – is chopped pecans! Think bite-sized gooey pecan pie with a crunch. Chef’s kiss!
Dark chocolate – Is it just me, or is a treat not a treat without a bit of chocolate? Dark chocolate is preferable to me. I love the depth! No doubt, milk chocolate would be equally tasty.
How to make Pecan Pie Bark Recipe
Step 1: In a medium saucepan, melt, then combine butter with brown sugar. This will be the crunchy base we all love for the pecan bark recipe.
Step 2: Bring the hot mixture to a boil over medium heat. Stir continuously for two minutes after it begins to boil. You’ll see the brown sugar and butter combine; as the mixture boils, it thickens.
Step 3:Remove, the pan from the heat and carefully add the pecans.
TIP: Make sure pecans are completely coated with the caramel mixture.
Step 4: Line a rectangular pan with parchment paper. Cover the bottom of the pan entirely with the graham crackers. It is easier if you don’t tear them apart but keep them together in larger sheets. Drizzle the caramel and pecan mixture over the entire pan of graham crackers to cover the surface of the graham crackers.
Step 5 After you have drizzled the praline topping, spread the mixture to the edges of the pan using a spatula. You want the graham crackers completely and evenly coated.
Step 6: Next, melt chocolate chips in the microwave VERY slowly. Pour the melted chocolate into a piping bag. If you don’t have a piping bag, a zipper storage bag with a corner snipped off also works.
Step 7: Drizzle the chocolate over the pecan bark going back and forth in a diagonal motion. It’s tempting to eat at this point, but you need to place the baking sheet in the refrigerator until the mixture hardens. It is worth the wait.
TIP: If you’re pressed for time, you can also place the pecan bark in the freezer to help the candy harden more quickly.
Step 8 Once the pecan pie bark has set, lift the dessert by the parchment edges and peel parchment from the bark. Break bark apart, and you have a decadent, crunchy, and more portable hand-held form of pecan pie!
Tips for making Pecan Bark
- Make sure to mix continuously for 2 minutes after boiling to ensure the brown sugar and butter are combined well; this way, the two don’t split when pouring over the graham crackers.
- Coat the pecans completely with the caramel mixture, then completely coat the graham cracker layer with the mixture. I promise you; this candy will be completely indulgent!
- Be sure the bark is cool and hardened before you break the pieces apart.
- Graham Cracker Pecan Pie Bark is undoubtedly worthy of its own platter. It is also a perfect accent to a charcuterie board or cookie platter. I also plan to wrap short stacks in cellophane, tied with holiday ribbon, to share with friends.
Variations to this recipe
Crust – Want to try cinnamon or chocolate-flavored graham crackers? Why not? Additional crust options could be vanilla wafers or even saltine crackers.
Nuts – Pecan Pie is the inspiration for this bark, but you can certainly use any nuts you’d like. I think walnuts or almonds would taste delicious!
Bourbon – Do you love bourbon in your pie? It’s equally suitable in your bark.
Chocolate – You can also melt a cup of chocolate chips into the caramel mixture to create a chocolate pecan pie bark instead of drizzling the melted chocolate on top.
Maple Syrup – I think a few drops would be an excellent addition to the recipe.
How to store Graham Cracker Pecan Pie Bark
This dessert keeps so well! You can keep this homemade candy at room temperature in an airtight container for up to a week. If you think the treats might last longer than that (don’t count on it!), the pecan bark will also keep well for up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator. Again, make sure to seal the treat in an airtight container.
This dessert is great to make ahead of time and freeze. It will keep for up to 6 months. So, if you’re wishing the holidays to last a bit longer, freeze a batch for later to let the holiday tastes linger!
