I am a connoisseur of all cookies, and this one just makes perfect sense. It’s a mash-up of my favorite store-bought cookies and delicious homemade chocolate chip cookies to create this rich, chewy, delectable, and appropriately named “cookie monster cookie.” It completely satisfies the sweetest sweet tooth!

Does the Cookie Monster Eat Anything other than Cookies?

While cookies are certainly his favorite food, Cookie Monster does not seem to discriminate when it comes to what he puts in his belly! In fact, he’s even been known to eat a number of inedible objects (like hubcaps, flatware, and letters).

Why You’ll Love These Cookie Monster Cookies

This cookie will take you straight back to your childhood and keep all your kiddos’ friends coming back to hang at your house! It has the warmth and comfort of a homemade sweet treat while paying tribute to all those junk-filled sleepovers from your middle school years! Your mom friends will all be asking how to make cookie monster cookies. So much goodness to pass on to our kids. Wouldn’t you agree?

Cookie Monster Cookies Ingredients

Unsalted Butter – Use real unsalted butter.
Brown Sugar – For added moisture and chewiness!
Granulated Sugar – This will give the cookies a bit of crispiness.
Eggs – They help bind the cookie together.
Cake Flour* – This flour is ground extra-fine, which will help contribute a fluffy texture to the cookie.
All Purpose Flour – This acts as a thickening agent.
Cornstarch – Cornstarch will also contribute to the overall texture of the cookie.
Baking Soda – Baking soda will act as a leavener.
Salt – This is added as a chemical leavening agent.
Oreo cookies – These cookies will add their distinct cream and crunch to help make this cookie monster cookie recipe.
Chips ahoy cookies – Extra crunch, chocolate chips, and added flavor from this cookie favorite!
Chocolate chips – Yes, more chocolate! I recommend semi-sweet chocolate chips, but you can certainly take creative liberty here.

The printable recipe card with the full of ingredients and baking instructions is located at the bottom of this post.

Step 1:

Place the butter, brown sugar, and sugar in a large mixing bowl. Use an electric mixer to cream the butter and sugars completely. You can also use a stand mixer with a paddle attachment.

Step 2:

Next, add eggs one at a time, mixing each in before adding another.

Step 3:

Then, stir the dry ingredients to combine (flours, salt, baking soda, cornstarch) in a large bowl.

Step 4:

Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture and combine completely.

Step 5:

Next, add Oreos, Chips Ahoy, and chocolate chips. Mix on slow.

Step 6:

Line baking sheets with parchment paper. Use a cookie scoop to create 3.5 oz cookie dough balls.

Step 7:

Place the 1⁄4 cup of Oreos, Chips Ahoy, and chocolate chips in a small bowl and mix to combine. Dip the dough ball into the cookie mixture and lightly press the dough into the mixture.

Step 8:

Place dough balls 2-3 inches apart on a baking sheet and bake for 11-12 minutes.

Chewy Monster Cookies Tips and Tricks

This is the best chewy monster cookie recipe, but you may want to heed a few of these tips and tricks to ensure they are chewy. (Leave the crisp and crunch to the oreo and chocolate chip cookie pieces!) First, make sure you cream your butter and sugar well. Secondly, make sure to use cake flour. Cake flour has a low protein content and will produce less gluten, making a softer and chewier cookie. Next tip, don’t overmix your dough. And finally, the best tip for chewy monster cookies is to underbake them just a bit! Remove them from the oven when the edges are set, and the center still looks slightly undone. The cookies will continue to bake once removed from the oven, and the baking sheet is placed on the cooling rack.

Why do I need to pack my brown sugar when measuring?

Packing your brown sugar ensures that you have the full measure of brown sugar without any air pockets.

Do I need to chill the dough?

If you don’t want flat cookies, yes! Chilling your cookie dough allows the fat in the dough to solidify. This helps your cookies expand slowly and hold onto their texture and flavor.

Why did my monster cookies go flat?

The cookie monster cookie typically goes flat because the butter is too soft or melted. Be sure to use cold butter for this recipe. And make sure to cool the dough once all ingredients are combined. Butter in the dough that is too soft or melted will spread. It could also be that you used too little flour. Be sure to measure accurately! Another reason cookies may flatten is due to being placed on hot cookie sheets before being placed in the oven.

Can monster cookie dough be frozen?

Absolutely! I recommend placing each cookie dough ball you don’t plan to eat right away in the freezer before baking! They’ll taste so much better than baking and then freezing the cookies.

Storage Tips

Store your cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week. You can freeze your cookies or, better yet, your cookie dough for up to six months!
